King of Vegas

Imagine getting the chance to play all of your favorite casino games without having to spend a dollar of your own money. That sounds like a lot of fun. Now, lets spice this fantasy up a little bit. Imagine that you’re playing in a competition against people from various walks of life. Now it’s getting a little more interesting. Wait, here’s the best part. Imagine that if you came out the all-around winner of this little competition, you would be awarded with $1 million dollars. Now we’re talking in a language that everyone can understand.

This is the premise of the new show on Spike TV entitled King of Vegas. The show is a competition of various casino games by 12 contestants who are all gamblers in some fashion or another. Some are professional poker players, some are professional blackjack players, some work at casinos, etc. The contestants play a series of casino tournaments, and whoever comes out at the end of it all is awarded with $1 million and the title of “King of Vegas.”

The show, while based on a great premise, simply fails to deliver. The contestants seem to have watched every reality show ever, and try with all of their might to put themselves into television stereotypes. If you’ve watched more than one episode of The Real World, you’ve met everyone on this show. Secondly, and more importantly, many of the games aren’t fun to watch on television, and the announcers are clueless. Put it all together, and you have the success that could have been.
